What a great day and everyone had the best time.  Great to see so many there and weather held out which was sweet.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers and the endless list of supporters, all the crew and members of Coastal Motorcycle Club, local businesses and riders and families who make the day a success.

Money raised will go towards the funds needed for the structured program called Walk On conducted by Spinal Cord Injuries Australia (SCIA).    I will begin this new program in November 2011. 

I say from the bottom of my heart the kindest thanks to every single person involved in providing the physical and mental support needed to keep me motivated to find a way to walk again.

Italian Honda rider Marco Simoncelli has been tragically killed in horror crash during the 2011 Malaysian Moto GP.

So young at 24 years of age..truly sad day.

Everyone from our Australian Motorcycle community send our heartfelt sorrow to Marco’s family, friends and all his team.

BATTISTA JUNIOR - Following his fathers passion of   Motorcross….Jett Battista doing a Burn out in front of his Dad and MotoX fans.

         

Matt is able to get around using his New SMOVE Stand up Motorised Device from Europe.   Matt is delighted with this device as he can stand face to face and move around (on flat surfaces) to interact with his friends and family. 

Standing relieves pressure, improves circulation and digestion and reduces pain and muscle spasms.  Will also allow him to stretch the muscles again after so long in the sitting position. 

The Kids loved the new mode of transport and were all over it asking questions on how it worked etc. wanting pictures with Matt and a chance to ride on his new wheels.

Matt is an inspiration to the young kids at Coastal Motor Cycle Club.  They are all thrilled to be able to ask him tips on technique and suspension..he is an icon to the local kids and adults alike, being 25 time Motocross WA Champion.

Matt said he has a lot to give back to the club that has supported him through his ordeal as a Paraplegic.

The Club has also contributed to Diabetes WA with donations of $1,140 as part of the Battista Bash. 

Personal Thanks to all the local businesses, every volunteer and rider who supported this great event.  Each year it gets bigger and better.

Matt the “Maulla” Battista

As you will be aware our son Matt “Maulla” Battista suffered serious spinal injuries in a road racing incident on 29th June 2008.  The last 2 years have had high and low moments for Matt and all our family.  Today we as a family have the opportunity to say heartfelt thank you to the wonderful people who have shown love, support and encouragement to our son Matt and his young family son Jett and daughter Tiah.

Over the two years Matt has had two visits to Germany for Stem Cell treatment including an 8 hour operation to repair his Spine.  His shoulder has been reconstructed although he is still in discomfort and may need to have another operation.   With all the additional problems Matt has endured over the last 2 years he is an inspiration to all with his arduous fitness regime to maintain his health and wellbeing, to looking after his young family and working at 5 Star Yamaha in Hamilton Hill and following his love for Motocross.

From the time Matt was 9 years of age our family have been members of Coastal Motorcycle Club it is through this club that we have had the most fun, along with making life long friends.

The Annual Battista Bash is a wonderful fundraising event organized by Coastal Motorcycle Club and Matt my wife Tina and I are overwhelmed at the show of family unity from this Club, their members, volunteers and local businesses who work tirelessly to bring the whole fundraising event together.

From our hearts we thank every single one of you.

Love, friendship and camaraderie, is what this sport has that is different from all others.

Off course the Male review was excellent and Tyson and his friends provided the very best  entertainment.  DJ was fantastic.

Bar staff at the venue Spearwood Dalmatinac Club (inc) were marvelous.

The event raised over $6,000 along with many ticket donations from kind ladies who could not make it on the night..that is so great.

Matt Battista came along on the night to show his thanks for all the support and consideration to his cause.  He had a fantastic time and loved all the female attention…for sure.

So Elyse, myself  and Aurelio hired a car, Aurelio driving was a major issue…as we were unable to get the Navsat to speak English…it only spoke German which meant we could have ended up in Spain…lol.

However we continued to do OK and arrived at our selected destination MotoX GP in Assen.  This was a fantastic few days as I met Pit Beirer former Motocross Champion.  We had more than motocross in common as Pit after an accident in June 8 2003 in Sevlieovo Bulgaria was paralyzed and is a paraplegic.

Pit now heads the KTM motocross factory team.

He has been in a wheelchair now for almost 7 years and is a remarkable man.  He gave me a lot of advise and some sites to check out to make my situation more manageable. 

One was in relation to a stand up device that allows him to move around.  So on return to Australia we will get our team onto researching this.

We wish to thank the chaps at KTM and everyone else we met for welcoming us to Moto X GP.

Also great thanks to Hilton Hotel for excellent accommodation suitable to my needs.  Service from all the Hilton staff was fantastic.  A big Thank You to our friend Christiane Bumbke for all her support in arranging our hotel accommodation  Europe..we love you.

Our other most wonderful friend Lisa Maclean who makes life in Singapore the greatest as I need to stop over due to my cicumstances. (picture left)

Without our family, friends, the community in Australia and our worldwide support this trip would never be possible.  I only hope that the Stem Cell treatment gives me some relief and all your hard work is rewarded.

Words cannot express how I feel but I am so fortunate to have you all on my side.

The team here were wonderful and went through a regime for Matt to use back home.  They introduced him on how to use various straps and excercise that would work different muscle groups that he had been unaware of.   Also they were supportive to the fact that Matt has Heterotopic Ossification and this in itself needed a more intense routine.

Matt now feels positive with his routine and said “this is going to be a challenge and will take more time to set up but results should be better”.  Matt said “It will need at least two people to work out with as there is much more to do”….hey Dad did you hear that…lol.

It is now apparent that we must purchase the software and link up with the Giger Team to download updates to be able to monitor excercise routine information.

A great visit said Matt.
